About the History Program
Lindenwood's history majors learn power skills like problem-solving, communication, empathy, and ethical reasoning. They also know, perhaps better than anyone, how to step back and see things in context, which allows them to think bigger, dream a step ahead, and be the visionary on any team.
Our history degree program can open doors to a variety of careers because you will get personalized mentoring from award-winning faculty members, all of whom are ready to help prepare you to be a future success. We even offer a cutting edge Geographic Information Systems (GIS) certificate with software-based learning applicable to a variety of careers.
Our History bachelor's degree includes 36 credit hours of coursework that provides the knowledge and skills that you need to teach at the high school level, attend graduate school, especially in history or law, or pursue a career in public history, such as working in archives, museums, or historical sites. Our graduates are also putting their power skills to use as broadcast journalists, paralegals, park rangers, librarians, public servants, and corporate innovators.
Quotes from former students:
"The discussions in class really forced us to use critical thinking and form our own opinions about history, not just get our opinions from some outdated textbook."
"I really like the somewhat relaxed and involving discussion style that the class took on for the majority of the semester."
"I really enjoyed the primary documents. They taught me how things and issues were perceived and understood at the time."
"I valued a class filled with people who are there not because they have to be but because they want to be."
