In short, a Research Guide is a tool to assist your students in their research. Librarians work with faculty to create these guides to provide information about our resources, tips on the research process, and citation styles all into one location for your students. Guides can be general, or more specific, depending on your needs and the needs of your course.

Subject Guides
Subject (or topic) guides are more general in purpose. They can be on any topic, such as art, gaming studies, or creative writing. They provide a good overview of a topic, and some general search terms and resources for research on that topic.
Course Guides
Course guides are designed for specific courses. The provide research tips, specific resource recommendations for assignments within that course, and assistance on citation styles, to name just a few features. Librarians will work with you to make sure every research area you cover in your course is included in your course guide.
Assignment Guides
If you have a particularly difficult assignment in your course, an assignment guide might be your best bet. Assignment guides can be created to provide your students with detailed assistance on a particularly hard research topic or assignment.
From the Library Website
All our Research Guides are easily accessible from the library website's homepage. Simply look for the link on the Research Help menu near the bottom of the page.
Within your Canvas Course
Even more convenient for your students, your custom created Course Research Guide can be easily embedded right where your students are: in your Canvas shell. Using the "More External Tools" option, you can embed a research tip box, page, or even an entire guide.
