Banned Books: Why are books banned or challenged?

Resources about current and past banned and Challenged books and the legislation trends we currently see

What gets banned and why?

Book banning, the most widespread form of censorship, occurs when private individuals, government officials, or organizations remove books from libraries, school reading lists, or bookstore shelves because they object to their content, ideas, or themes. Those advocating a ban complain typically that the book in question contains graphic violence, expresses disrespect for parents and family, is sexually explicit, exalts evil, lacks literary merit, is unsuitable for a particular age group, or includes offensive language. from the  Middle Tennessee State University's article on Book Banning

Often book bans affect marginalized groups like Black and Indigenous Persons of Color and LGBTQIA+ persons, for example.

A relatively new objection we are seeing to materials is that they contain or promote Equity, Diversity and Inclusion content.
