Each of the 50 states has obscenity laws. Currently those state laws are being used to frame those laws and other, "to allow for the prosecution of librarians, educators, college and university faculty, and museum professionals."

Fines and/or Prison for Librarians

According to Hannah Natanson, in her Washington Post article from May 2023, "At least seven states have passed such laws in the past two years."
