Grants

While Open Educational Resources are typically free resources provided to students, there is a cost associated with OER. The time it takes to create or edit an open educational resource is typically not thought of when adopting or creating OER. If you plan on creating an open textbook, or other material, look into grant funding. This page will list different websites where you can find a grant to support your creation.

Mellon Foundation: Grant Resources
The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation actively works with our grantee partners and we are deeply immersed in the fields in which we invest. Our grants are designed to activate the spirit of learning through the creation and sharing of bold new knowledge and the inspiration felt in art.

The Foundation makes grants to institutions and organizations, not to individuals.
Will and Flora Hewlett Foundation
Provides information about grants directly to the public through our online database and other sources, such as the Foundation Center and the International Aid Transparency Initiative.
Open Textbook Pilot Grant Program
The Open Textbook Pilot is a U.S. federal grant program that supports projects at institutions of higher education that create or expand the use of open textbooks to achieve savings for students. First funded by Congress in the bipartisan fiscal year 2018 government spending bill then renewed annually, a total of $24 million has been appropriated for open textbook programs that benefit students across the country.

Find grants, learn about grants, ask questions about grants etc. This government funded website gives you plenty of information as well as some helpful ways to find the right grant for you.
